Bren (Brenda) Atchison uses mixed media to create abstract and representational works of art. She melds established techniques and conventions with her particular approach to the visual arts. Bren’s work is the result of collaboration and a sense of connectivity with diverse cultures, community and nature.

A member of Boston’s vibrant art community, Ms. Atchison has exhibited her work in the South End area since 1999. She has public art on permanent display as well as artwork in private collections. Bren is dedicated to expanding opportunities for artist to grow. She is the founder of One Studio Alliance; a group of artists committed to empowering peers with effective outlets for professional growth and development. As an artist-curator, Ms. Atchison was a founding member of Nature’s Gems, an annual art exhibition held in Franklin Park, the largest park in Boston’s Emerald Necklace. She is an elected artist representative, serving on the Bates Art Center Board of Directors. Ms. Atchison is also a member of the South End Open Studios Planning Committee, an annual event in one of Boston’s largest art communities. Bren has actively supported community organizations through her art including Rosie’s Place, a local shelter for homeless women; Washington Street Gateways, a program to restore economic vitality to urban main streets; the Franklin Park Coalition; and the Emerald Necklace Conservancy.

Bren studied design at the University of Connecticut; Art History at the University of Paris (La Sorbonne); and studio arts through classes and workshops at Massachusetts College of Art; museum schools; and private studio studies with renowned professionals. A lifelong learner, Ms. Atchison continues to participate in creative workgroups with her peers. Her art draws from life experience refined through education and collaboration. Bren (Brenda) Atchison holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts and a M.Ed. from Antioch University.
