I was born in Cincinnati to two creative minded teachers and thus I was taught very early on that there was nothing that I could not do. I’ve pursued many different mediums over my lifetime, but have fallen head-over-heels in love with fabric. My mother taught me to sew when I was about 5, and the love affair has never ended.

Although I did go to a few colleges; (for business, accounting, wildlife biology, and horticulture), I have never taken an art class. In art I am completely self-taught and I find learning new mediums to be fascinating.

In 2005, after I felt I had mastered piecing construction techniques, I turned a corner and began to focus on design. I have always been a very visual person and loved to paint or draw. I began drawing pictures and converting them into patterns I could follow with fabric.

The result of that first foray was accepted into the Art Quilt category/AQS Paducah show in 2007. Strong in the knowledge that I would only get better I began really pursuing the art and have been slowly developing my own voice for a few years. Now I am very selective as to which shows I’d like to be a part of as I am actively trying to promote art quilting to the level of fine art it deserves to be recognized as.

I’ve joined a few organizations (AQS, SAQA, CQAFA, and IQA) that are focused on contemporary quilting both locally and nationally. I strive constantly to educate and inspire those around me in order to further the goal of elevating contemporary fiber art into the world of fine art. I come across new ideas or ways to use and incorporate new mediums into the art of quilting through these organizations.

Because I never repeat my work, I am constantly learning new techniques, as well as perfecting previous ones in the process. Working with all different types of fabric, acrylics, oils, and found objects I can create not only the basic two-dimensional designs, but also attain the illusion of movement as light dances across the surface.
