The photographer Jim White is currently working with color abstractions found in nature. The series, Elemental Concerns, [in conjunction with some examples included at this site] is based on visual explorations of points where the elements (water, air, earth, and fire) merge, often with ambiguous intersections. The images attempt to articulate a metaphysical sense of place present along frequently travelled paths.
Also included are images from the artist’s various travels. These scenes more directly attempt to enter a sense of place with an eye toward personal connections to the environment. Work included here is primarily from Rievaulx (Yorkshire, England) and the Bloomsbury region in London. Additional images are from the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City. Work from France, Guatemala, and Japan will be posted in the near future.
