Born in the Bronx in 1953, contemporary artist Seth Tane attended the Rhode Island School of Design in the early 1970's. After studying, he moved to Portland, OR, where he has spent most of his time since. He began as a sculptor, while also developing an interest in painting and photography. Eventually, he began painting realist oils, often depicting scenes of New York City and San Francisco as well as diverse marine and industrial subjects. Tane has shown in several major solo and group shows around the nation, including most recently at Cavalier Galleries New York, NY and Greenwich, CT, the Rolland Gallery, Thousand Oaks, CA and Helena Fox Fine Art, Charleston, SC. His work is often found in public and private collections, including the Sheldon Museum in Lincoln, NE, several cities in the US, as well as Canada and France. In the 1980s, he received many grants and commissions for the US Navy in Charleston, SC, the SC Arts Council, and the NJ Humanities Council. He continues to live and work in Portland, and travels often to gather source material for new works.
