Sandra Sider, a New York quilt artist, has worked with photographic processes in quilts since the late 1970s, including cyanotype and photo transfer. She studied studio art in workshops at the School of Visual Arts and Manhattan Graphics Center, and has an M.A. in art history. Although Sider's work falls within the definition of contemporary art, through both materials and techniques she retains a connection with her family's quilting history in Appalachia. Sider's quilts have been published in several books, articles, and exhibition catalogues, and exhibited in juried competitions. She is currently Vice President of Studio Art Quilt Associates, which promotes the quilt as an art form.
