William Contino was born in Los Angeles California and has lived and worked in New York, Baltimore and London. He received his BfA from Alfred University in 1984 and MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in 1988. William has taught at The College of Art and Design at Alfred University, beginning in 1991 teaching in The Division of Expanded Media as a Professor of Printmaking.Moving to London in 1997 he continued to teach drawing and painting at the American School in London. In 2003 William moved back to New York to continue teaching at Alfred University's School of Art and Design.
William has exhibited work in galleries and museums both nationally and internationally. Most recently William has been included in exhibitions in Beijing China and Graz Austria. His work is in collections both public and private. He continues a studio practice involving a variety of media, including painting, drawing, printmaking and video. During the month of March 2011, William began working with Austrian painter Josef Schutzenhofer and the sculptor Douglas Hoagg on a series of public works to be exhibited Graz Austria and the 2012 European Cultural Capital, Maribor Slovenia.
