I have always been drawn to American Indian iconic portrait photography at the tail end of the 1800s – it has been a source of inspiration & curiosity. These old photographs reveal a melancholy sadness which is of no recourse to the subjects – they are captured in many senses – by the lens, by us, by history’s reflection. Yet, there is something so hyper real in the clear focus of the lens that connects you to the subjects. I wanted to take these images manipulate, distort & break them down giving them a new life and spirit while paying homage to both subject and photographer.

As a child of the state department ( my father worked for USAID for many many years) I take many of my artistic inspirations from the exotic locations I’ve lived in and visited. I grew up in Asia, studied art & design at the Arts Center International in Florence, Italy finishing my studies with a BA in Art History at Boston University. I have traveled throughout europe, the middle east, africa and southeast asia.

I work in a large format style, on canvas with many layers of acrylic, charcoal, digital prints, worked into a canvas creating a freedom of visual expression. I currently reside in Somerville, MA at Brickbottom Artist Building and have my art studio at Vernon Street Studios in Somerville.
