Sarah Lindley is a sculptor and Associate Professor of Art at Kalamazoo College, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she teaches sculpture and ceramics. The majority of Lindley’s objects and installations explore the domestic environment through the representation and deconstruction of furniture forms typically used for preservation and display. In her most recent sculptural works, she considers the effect of industry on the landscape through her interpretations of derelict mills, abandoned rail and 19th century architecture. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Lindley holds an MFA from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA and a BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics, in Alfred, NY. Lindley has been an Arts and Industry Resident at the Kohler Company factory in Kohler, Wisconsin, and a studio member and instructor at Lill Street Studios in Chicago, IL. Her 2009 exhibitions include “Remains: Contemporary Artists and the Material Past” at the Milwaukee Art Museum, “Housing Petronella” at Artspace, in Raleigh, NC, “Next Iconoclasts” at the Oregon College of Art and Craft, “NCECA Clay National Biennial” at the Arizona State University Museum, and the “CEBIKO World Ceramic Biennale” in Incheon, South Korea.
