Solange Roberdeau is a practicing artist, educator and freelance designer/printmaker whose work explores the poetry that emerges at the intersection of the human everyday and the natural rhythms outside of it. Her work is interdisciplinary with a current focus on using photography, film and drawing to create images that speak about non-hierarchical materiality, the act of making and a value in paying attention to the aesthetic forms that emerge from a physical engagement with her environments. She relates to these elements as counterpoints to the over-arching rapidity of contemporary consumer culture and the sensual flattening inherent in visually dominated learning. She holds an MFA in Studio Art from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and a BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). While at RISD she was also a recipient of the European Honors Award and studied in Rome, Italy for one year. Her work has been exhibited in group shows nationally at venues including the International Print Center in New York, NY; Gross McLeaf Gallery in Philadelphia, PA; and at the Flux Factory in Long Island City, NY. Examples of her work and a teaching instructional can be found in, The Magical Secrets of Chine Colle published by Crown Point Press and her creative writing and photography can be found online at Saint Lucy, www.saint-lucy.com edited by Mark Durant.
