Selin Balci earned her BSc from Istanbul University, BFA from West Virginia University and MFA from University of Maryland. Balci employs living microorganisms to create a biological arena. Constantly discovering and combining the scientific material and mediums, Balci applies an acute scientific laboratory practice to create her art works.

She references the fundamental, underlying social dilemmas and principles of our existence in an effort to understand and highlight social issues.
Balci was awarded with College Art Association (CAA) Professional-Development Fellowship in 2012. She has received many other honors, including So Hamiltonian Fellowship from Hamiltonian Gallery, SmackMellon's Hot Picks Artist Award, SOFAlab Science/Art Project Collaboration Grant from George Mason University and Goldhaber Travel Grant from University of Maryland enabling her to attend MIND THE GAP project in Istanbul. Most recently she has been selected as a finalist for Trawick Prize. Balci’s work has been featured in numerous group and solo shows in Washington metropolitan area and beyond.
