Susan Pogány has created a new art form called Techno-Marbling. Techno-marbles are a contemporary melding of the thousand-year-old art of marbled papers with modern computer graphics. To create her Techno-marbles, Susan Pogány, one of the country’s best-known paper marblers, photographs her handmade designs, then manipulates the images digitally via computer. Marbled papers are best known for their traditional use on the covers and endpapers of old books. During the last quarter century’s renaissance of the art of marbling, Pogány’s original designs were used on book covers published by Random House, Alfred Knopf, Princeton Press, Ballantine Books, Houghton-Mifflin, Prentice-Hall, and other major publishers. Her marbled art also appeared on a variety of commercial products. A book with her original marbled endpapers was given as a gift by President Bill Clinton to the president of Russia at the Hyde Park summit meeting in New York. All of Pogány’s original marbling was created with ancient, traditional methods using seaweed, ox gall, alum, and marbling combs. She never dreamed that one day she would add a computer to her list of tools. Her pieces are Limited Edition Archival Prints.
