Tom Griscom was born in Chattanooga, TN. He earned his BFA with honors in Photography in 1999 from the Savannah College of Art and Design and his MFA in 2009 from San Francisco State University. Griscom’s photographic work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, published and is in private collections. His current work, thru research with SFSU's Labor Archive and Research Center, documents historic sites in San Francisco's turbulent labor and union history. The visual aspect of the project pays homage to predecessors with sweeping panoramas of the city while also making social documents that look at the evolution of a very storied area. The documentation also takes into account new photographic methods to further follow the evolution of photography.
In addition he has worked as a graphic designer for 9 years for magazines such as the Village Voice, Blackbook, and Artnews. He currently lives and works in San Francisco, CA.
