Artist Statement:

Lately, my work spends time with the natural world colliding with man’s physically and spiritually constructed world.
Much like my interest in fusing themes and subject matter in unorthodox ways, I also enjoy the balance created with mixing mediums in a non-traditional manner. Marker on oil paint, Pencil on spray paint, anything is game if I feel it works within the context. I often revisit my work and find that I try taking myself back to the time and place in which it was created. In those instances I can often feel detached from the emotion and creative impulses that make up the piece, almost as if I hadn’t been the one who created it. With that in mind, I set out to make art that can hold an appreciation to the casual viewer as an ambiguous composition on top of the often complex underlying themes which I had initially set out to explore.

BIO:

Growing up in a small, conservative, touristy New Hampshire town, Timo had the fortunate experience of coming of age on the campus of a prep school. Within an otherwise narrow landscape, this academic community provided substantial intellectual and cultural influences, which would ultimately become the foundation for his creativity. In the early 80’s, he was consumed by the second wave of Skateboarding, as well as in the emergence of Hip Hop, Reggae and Punk Rock into popular culture. These influences fused into his attitude and aesthetic sensibility, which still resonates with him today.
Timo first began his education and exploration of the arts while in high school at The Rhode Island School of Design summer studies program. While at R.I.S.D. the seed was planted for Timo’s creative life pursuits. He went on to study at the Syracuse School of Visual and Performing Arts where he received his BFA, studying illustration design and fine art painting. Timo then moved to Chicago to enhance his personal style with the study of Buddhist Art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Trading the windy winter streets of Chicago for the big blue skies of Boulder, Colorado, Timo set out to pursue his love of painting and graphic design. Timo has since been representing by the Agora Gallery in NYC and the POP Gallery in Santa Fe, NM. His Creativity has lead to a wide range on projects including a collaborated effort with Ralph Steadman for the Flying Dog Beer Company, book jacket illustration, corporate branding, package design, apparel design and private art commissions.
Timo’s gallery work is primarily created with oils and mixed media on board. He fuses conceptual studies of composition, shapes, color, metaphors, pop symbols, icons, and the human condition. Timo looks to convey compelling themes within a narrative to inspire curiosity as well as reaction from his overall aesthetic.
