Toscano is an artist, graduating in Visual Arts from the State University of Rio de Janeiro. In his artistic research he investigates the major tropes that affect the community in which he lives, where security, culture, education and public health are constantly in a state of precariousness.
The artist produces his artworks, reflecting bodies that are marginalized society, such as gays, prisoners, the sick, poor and rural people, in precarious conditions applied by the state, which promotes neglect and violence from the lack of subsidies for maintenance of life in multiple instances, of the censorship of freedom of the press and expression, and of the potential fascism that rises in the country.
It is based on the precariousness, on the spectrum of violence, necessity, censorship, imposition of heteronormativity and the economy of words, the capital's violence into the agency of macro policies institutions, in which the artist produces power for his artworks, that resist, as a subtle political gesture against the institutional and vigilant macro policies.
Yago Toscano participated in important exhibitions, productions and art fairs, such as ArtRIO 2018, the largest art fair in the country, and exhibitions at important art spaces in Brazil, such as Galeria Cañizares (BA), the Municipal Art Center Hélio Oiticica (RJ), Carpintaria Gallery / Fortes D'Aloia and Gabriel (RJ), Casa França-Brasil (RJ) and the production of the 32nd Biennial of Arts of São Paulo - Incerteza Viva (SP).
In the first half of 2019, he will participate in a collective exhibition at one of the most important art institutions in Rio de Janeiro, Paço Imperial.
