TRACY MILLER
ARTIST STATEMENT
My Contemporary Western Expressionist Paintings are based on my love of the west. My Mom encouraged the artist in me and my Dad exposed me to the great outdoors instilling a love of the land and wide open skies. I truly learned to slow down and appreciate nature. I grew up riding horses and camping in our National Parks, and animals in nature are my passion. My subject matter is primarily horses and Western wildlife, done in bold brushstrokes and bright colors. The paintings start as pure abstract expressionism, integrating emotion and movement through color and shape. The animal reveals itself to me in the process of applying paint. I then refine the details that make the animal immediately recognizable, capturing its essence and spirit.
ABOUT TRACY
Tracy Miller was obsessed from a young age with art, horses, and wanderlust for travelling the wide open spaces of the West. She honed her art and subject matter to her fresh viewpoint. Tracy grew up in Denver, Colorado. Her Dad taught her how to ride horses, fish, camp, and hike and appreciate the outdoors and her Mom, being the New York City girl, instilled an appreciation for art and culture.
Tracy earned her Bachelor's degree in Art from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. She studied many mediums, enjoying printmaking and art history the most. Before becoming a full time artist, she had the opportunity to work on the business side as an art consultant for Gallery One in Denver, meeting world famous artists and selling their works to her clientele. She then worked for two galleries in Colorado Springs before embarking on her own painting career.
Tracy's work has been collected internationally and is in the corporate collections of Children's Hospital and Newmont Mining Company. She was recently included in a new book by North Light Publishers titled Acrylic Works; the Best of Acrylic Painting and was one of this year's finalists for the prestigious Athena Award. She will exhibit for the fifth row in a year in the Mountain Oyster Club Invitational Art Show and Sale in Tucson AZ and will participate again in this year's Plein Air Fest at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, WY. She was also involved in last year's inaugural Cloud Foundation Art Show & Sale, being one of the main curators.
Tracy owns the Tracy Miller Gallery in Manitou Springs, Colorado, where she sells her own work and the paintings and sculptures of other artists working in the vernacular of "Art of the New West".
