Born and raised in Colorado, Wes is fifth generation Colorado native. He comes from a family of hard working mountain folk. His father is a journeyman carpenter and his mother is self employed. After high school, Wes went to work doing framing on houses, continuing on to dirt work before deciding to go to college. Going from Grand Junction, Colorado to Buena Vista, Colorado to Gunnison, Colorado Wes graduated in 2011 with a BFA in sculpture from Western State Colorado University.
Wes handcrafts stunning steel works. His works show the industrial nature of steel and coalesces it with the organic. His love of the outdoors and goals of sustainable life drive him to create and recreate extraordinary sights , beautiful wildlife and imagery from his life. By fishing the reservoirs and hiking the endless hills of the Colorado Rockies Wes has been able to create what is so aesthetically desired from nature and make it timeless.
Whether Wes' created a glistening fall aspen or a Greek goddess in full armor it is industrial and yet aesthetically organic. His unique combination of the two realms of industrial and organic make for a timeless experience that will maintain through generations. His work is a true visual illustration of today's artist, or at least what it should be. His distinctive style is reflective of a traditional small town raising and an audacious exploratory spirit. Wes' legs take him on treks that consist of countless miles and end in pockets full of rocks and packs of racks but his eyes are ceaselessly soaking in the beautiful sights to be seen. This translates into the aesthetic he is loved and sought for. His eye and talent to create an organic aesthetic in his industrial medium is even more astonishing knowing it materializes through a handheld hammer and torch. He seeks to be a modern day blacksmith with the objective of fine art in mind.
