James Austin Murray is a painter who lives and works in New York City. A graduate of Parson School of Design, he has been a curator and gallerist opening Hartnett-Murray that later became Markham-Murray Gallery in Tribeca, NYC.
After graduating from Parsons School of Design, he worked at Bergdorf Goodman doing window display. He then moved to Kocise, Slovakia to paint full time. He returned to New York and supported his painting by working at Bloomberg Television, later working as a New York City Firefighter. During that time he ran art auction fund raisers for the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation and became a co-founder of the 9/11 Photo Project.
He left the Fire Department of New York in 2006 and has been painting full time since.
