My early years in Marshfield, Massachusetts helped form my desire to be an artist. At 15 and in high school I attended the Art Instructions Correspondence School and then on to New England School of Art for my formal training and graduation in 1969. I began as a painter and years later taught myself to sculpt and carve wood. I was a sign painter and woodcarver of signs when I moved to Maine in the 1970's and later won the honor of Best In World Interpretive Wood Carving of Birds.
I have garnered such honors as being an Elected Fellow of The National Sculpture Society and a Signature Master Artist of The Society of Animal Artists. I continue to carve wood, sculpt in wax for casting bronze works and I also paint and write as a poet.
My work is in seven permanent museum collections in the U.S. and I have had my work in tours of Japan, China and Europe. There are fifteen major institutions of the United States that have my work in their collections. At 66 years now I feel like I am at my prime and my work continues to be selected for major exhibitions and museum tours. Right now I have 3 pieces of sculpture, wooden originals that are featured works in the touring museum show ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, which show I had part of the conception for with curator David Wagner. This show continues for 2 more years. I am working on a major show for next February at Martin Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina which is being done in conjunction with the South Carolina Aquarium and in support of their turtle hospital. The show will feature wooden and bronze sea turtles and paintings of sea turtles along with poetry.
