Artist Michael A. Williams is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and has an eye disorder known as Stargardt's Disease (Macular Degenerative). The artist has been visually impaired since birth. He has been drawing and painting since the age of 10. Mr. Williams credits his mother for encouraging him to pursue his interest in art. He also stated that he became fascinated with art by watching his mother use markers to draw a cowboy on horseback riding off toward the sunset. That's when he knew that art would become his calling.

Artist Michael A. Williams is also self- taught. He received many awards for his creations. In the early 1980s, he received the Memphis Technical High School "Outstanding Art Student" Award, The St. Joseph Hospital Pen and Ink Calendar Contest, The Mid-South Fair Art Contest in Pen and Ink drawing and The Southland Mall "Scholastic Art Competition". He has been featured in the Memphis Tri State Defender, WMCTV "Nancy Hart Intermission" show, Memphis Cablevision "Shelby State Community College' Television program.

During the early 1990s, Mr. Williams would move to San Antonio, TX and was featured on KENS "Janice Miles Positively San Antonio" Show. To fast forward a few years, the artist would be featured Fox13 Memphis, Painting From the Soul, In 2015, the Mr. Williams would receive a letter from President Obama congratulating him on his accomplishments as a visually impaired artist and the Federal Executive Association "Outstanding Disabled Federal Employee of the Year" for the Memphis Region. In2017, the artist would be nominated for the Federal Employee Association “Outstanding Disabled Federal Employee of the Year” award and win. That same year, Mr. Williams would receive yet another letter from President Obama, this time to accept an artwork given to the President as a gift along with two abstract paintings from Mr. Williams' mother (Mattie L. Williams),to add to the President's art collection.

In 2009, the artist would enter the American Printing House for the Blind "Insight Art Competition for Blind and Visually Impaired" would place 3rd out of 400 entries. It was the artist's very first time submitting art to the competition. The title of the painting was "Sunset Tow"

In 2010, artist Michael A. Williams would enter the same art competition hosted by the American Printing House for the Blind and place 2nd out of some 400 entries with the painting titled "Bountiful Tow

In 2012, the artist entered American Printing House for the Blind art competition and placed 1st out of 400 entries with the art piece titled "Gathering for Supplies" The piece was later donated to the Germantown Lions Club fundraiser and sold.

In 2014, the artist would place 2nd in the same competition out some 400+ entries with the art piece titled "Winter Wanderland" , which is the very art piece given to President Obama.

Also in 2012, the artist has founded the non-profit organization "International Association for Sight Impaired Artists". The purpose of the organization is to encourage individuals who are blind or visually impaired to get involved in all aspects of the arts.
