In the summer of 2006, I felt compelled to travel to South Africa in the pursuit of the physical world in its raw state. As a professional photographer, artist, and educator it was important for me to experience the people and land of the country and also to use my trip as a learning tool for my students. I photographed breathe taking scenes, charismatic individuals and fascinating wildlife. Interspersed in the landscape we found habitations of interesting people full of curiosity, at times suspicious but usually friendly. Through this experience I gained a new appreciation for friendship and a clearer understanding of the world thousands of miles away that I had once only dreamed of visiting.
