I love to travel and make watercolor paintings of the places that I visit. Painting lets me relive memories of being in very special places in our world. I see things differently when I draw and paint. Most of my most exotic travel art has been created when I have gone to Europe or Africa.
Recently, I traveled to Argentina in South America and painted the beauty in that country.
Sometimes, I find lovely settings in my home country. But any of these places provide the inspiration for me to paint. They can be just unusual locations around Washington, DC, my home town.
I love the Impressionistic style from France, the Spanish Modernists of the Mediterranean; the sandy pastel colors of Egypt, the rich earth tones of Kenya, in sub-Saharan Africa.
My formal training took place at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, to earn a B.F.A. in graphic design.
Before my newspaper career, I designed graphics in four television stations; then, worked in two major advertising agencies in Washington area.
While an editorial news artist at The Washington Post News Art, I created pages and graphics for the weekly Real Estate section, among other sections, where I developed an appreciation for houses, buildings and accompanying architectural detail.
I enjoy painting details in watercolor. I like to suggest a shape, rather than paint it with photographic precision. This way the viewer can imagine the reality. In painting, less is more! Let the viewer be curious.
After leaving The Post, I now focus on getting a Certificate of Digital Graphic Design at Montgomery College, painting, traveling and designing graphics that promote the visual and performing arts.
