Desirée Patterson

Desirée Patterson is a Canadian photographic artist, based in Vancouver, BC. Her career began with pictorial documentation of her extensive travels throughout more than thirty-seven countries. It was upon witnessing many exhausted environments and impoverished situations that Patterson dedicated her practice to creating visual art that cultivates awareness of the environmental issues that threaten a sustainable future and social justice. Her compositions often feature organic elements and synthetic imagery pensively fused together to offer insight into the ultimate disconnection of the contemporary individual to the natural world. These works aspire to unite viewers with a personal sense of ecological connection and promote action by way of individual stewardship.
Desirée's unique aesthetic has gained recognition with local curators, journalists and art collectors. Her work is exhibited in both commercial and public galleries, with private collections held locally as well as internationally in Los Angeles, Singapore, London, New York, Hong Kong, and Toronto. Selected achievements include; public art commissions by: the BC Children's Hospital (2016), the City of Richmond (2017) and Intransit BC (2019), solo exhibition at the Reach Gallery and Museum in Abbotsford, BC (2017), curation in The Other Art Fair, Los Angeles (2018) and New York (2019), solo exhibition 'Point De Fusion,' Capture Photography Festival, Vancouver, BC (2018), selection for the 2018 Creative Climate Awards, Human Impacts Institute, New York (2018), Commended Winner in the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards, with exhibit at Somerset House, in London, England (2018) and recent selection to train with former Vice President Al Gore in Los Angeles (2018), in the role of civilian leadership with his Climate Reality Project.
