Jeffrey Luque's life as an artist began at age 23, in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Like few, he is self taught, yet has gained notable attention over the years, by exploring and experimenting primarily with oil paints applied to oversize canvases, since picking up his very ?rst one.
   He spent years in New Mexico re?ning his craft, and it was there he found his calling toward highly detailed large-scale ?oral paintings. “It may sound ironic for ?nding a passion to paint ?owers in the high desert, but on the contrary it puts more emphasis on their singular beauty.”  His imagery is taken from the many diverse and close-up images of ?owers he photographs, most of them while out west. “ I want to try to show the beauty and isolation of ?owers and how that relates to our lives. Their moment of beauty is not long lasting and some only show their beauty once and then die. I try to show this through giving my paintings depth through the darkness in contrast to the vibrancy of isolated color. It is a beauty that we pass by day by day and that is constantly overlooked. It is easy to understand passing by and not noticing a beautiful ?ower, but when it comes to us, we stay blinded by the beauty that all of us carries within us.”
Once when he moved back to Florida, his ?ower paintings developed more and there he started his idea of Girl with Flowers series. This study pushed his skills and development of his body of work
His steady and consistent body of artistic work is inserted as part of the contemporary realism current trends. His outstanding technique is the co mixture of excellent drawing and refined pictorial skills
A profusion of expressive details is eye-catching to the dazzled viewer of his works. A lush flora encloses the large faces, which take up much of the canvas painted surface. Luque’s created women appear to the viewer with sensual and an expressive gaze, through a lit up complexion by the pointillist technique, mingled with minuscule elements that cast texture to the faces.
The artist plays with the visual perception of the viewer, by creating distinctive painting layers that add depth to his works to be appreciated with 3D lenses.
  Jeffrey Luque is a resident artist at CoRK Arts District in Jacksonville, Florida and is also a bicyke mechanic and avid cyclist. He has had work exhibited around many states in the US as well as in Australia, Asia and Europe.
