I grew up in the steel producing region of northwest Indiana. After receiving a BA in Mathematics from Indiana University, and worked in business computing for twenty years wearing a suit and tie. In high school and college I worked in foundries and factories, and have always been interested in the protective work clothing worn by laborers in hostile environments. In a way, these rather alien environments exist in all human enterprises, and so I took the analogy to its conclusion.
