Katy Mutton

Katy Mutton is a Canberra based visual artist whose practice is informed by an ongoing concern with warfare and how it relates to our cultural identity through history. She is interested particularly in the generational impact of war on the psyche of individuals and communities, as well as being intrigued by our relationship with the tools of war as romanticised objects.
Since graduating from the Australian National University, School of Art (2010) with a Bachelor degree in Visual Art (Printmedia and Drawing), she has exhibited regularly in the ACT and interstate Australia. She also has a Bachelor degree in Applied Science in Environmental Design from the University of Canberra (2002). Her professional background in design has been influential to her art practice, with drafting and graphic techniques, recurring features in her work.
In 2013, Mutton was the recipient of an Australia Council ArtStart grant, the Canberra Contemporary Art Space Studio residency award and the CAPO Mcgrath Emerging Artist Award. She was also Artist in Residence at the Museums Australia National Conference for the Centenary of Canberra (2013) creating whimsical, participatory works for the delegates. Mutton’s artwork is held by The Australian War Memorial, The Molonglo Group, and many private collections.
