Cynthia Hitschler

From grade school forward I drew in pencil and painted in oils under intermittent private and group instruction. I attended Washington University School of Fine Arts (St. Louis) for two years with a focus on sculpture. As a freshman, I earned the Eliza McMillan Merit Scholarship, and during my sophomore year, I was awarded first place in the annual Washington U. Figure Sculpture Contest, judged by Rudy Torrini, National Sculpture Society Fellow and Fontbonne University Professor Emeritus. Over the years, I continued to paint portraits in oil. In 1998, I cast my first sculpture in bronze at the Johnson Atelier in Mercerville, New Jersey. My sculpture portfolio now features numerous works in bronze, plaster and aluminum, from miniature to monumental in scale. In 2004, I wrote, illustrated and published a slim, three-volume children's series consisting of The World of Jacky Blue and Other Cats, Gleb…the Terrible!, and The Perils of Pink Cat. Cat Fancy Magazine prominently and favorably reviewed the series in their book section, as did St. Louis Post-Dispatch "special feature" writer Florence Shinkle. Available for purchase from all major book retailers (online and in-store),The Jacky Blue Series© can be found in library collections throughout the United States, Canada and abroad.
