Lulu Yee

Lulu Yee was born in the Bay Area of California. She received her formal art education from the San Francisco Art Institute. Her informal education came from her beloved mother, who was a home economics teacher and ambitious collector of beautiful Tjokskies.

Working in various mediums ( paint, clay, textiles) Lulu depicts her wishful, personal mythology. She is inspired by her travels, "objects and people with a history", loved ones and their unique stories. She has a particular fondness for vintage toys, old images of sea creatures, flowers and animals.

In building ceramic creatures (approximately the size of a human toddler), Lulu is glad to finally make the creatures she has been painting for years, "come to life". She enjoys knitting or sewing toys, painting "unrealistic yet accurate" portraits, handmade dishes and other treasures.

Currently living in New York City with her handsome husband, their pugs (and ever-growing collection of gnomes), Lulu calls Missoula, MT and Reykjavik, Iceland her hometowns. She aims to travel to many magical places to "find" her Creatures at home. Please write to her if you know of a special place where they could be found.

One of the most precious things a favorite artist told her years ago was, "Being an artist is really about how you live your life."
