Nadia Fairlamb

As a mixed media wood sculptor, and my work attempts to share the essence of a people, geographical location, or mythology. I use a jigsaw to cut my wood pieces, like other artists use a pencil or paintbrush. Layers of color and texture in each piece are intended to entice a sensory reaction in my viewer.

Having grown up an American in Europe, Australia, and places in between, I have always been captivated by the mythologies, tales, archetypes of each location i've lived.

Studying Archaeology and sculptural ceramics in University, I had many opportunities to learn the science of humanities and fine arts. I was a hired artist on several archaeological excavations, and had the unique opportunity to excavate, restore, and illustrate ancient ceramics and other artifacts for journals and papers.

That archaeological work, living in Hawaii where the cultural myths are still alive and practiced, and my boundless curiosity of ancient cultures, my body of work expands and grows.
