Faith Rumm, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, grew up hiking, backpacking and mountain climbing with her family in California’s Sierra Nevada.
This early introduction to nature created a foundation for her personal and artistic life. Encouraged in creativity by her violinist mother, she eventually recognized a deep desire to be a visual artist.
Interweaving love of art and nature, Rumm earned a BFA at San Francisco State University, double majoring in Fine Art and Physical Geography. She has since studied and taken workshops with Craig Nelson, Brian Blood, Jay Moore, Ken Auster, and Randall Sexton. Following a passion for wilderness, she worked in national forests and parks, eventually specializing in interpretive design. Both her fine art and her professional work as an illustrator/designer expresses her love for nature and dedication to conservation.
The pursuit of inspiration has led Rumm to many places, from the High Sierra in
California to China, Nepal, Borneo, Irianjaya, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and
the Southwest Desert. In addition to an abiding wanderlust, Faith loves to hike and has accomplished numerous long distance hikes.
“I love being outdoors, working directly from the source of my inspiration. Painting on location trains one’s eye like nothing else. I never get tired of the challenge of outdoor painting, as it allows me to connect with the world I care about. I also love to take my inspiration into the studio and work large, which gives me opportunity to explore the subject more deeply, and to meditate on ideas.”
Rumm currently lives in the Yosemite National Park gateway town of Mariposa, where she operates the RummStudio Gallery featuring Rumm art and other local and regional artists.
