After a 5 year apprenticeship in Florence, Italy, Libby returned to Chicago as a master goldsmith and completed a 23 year career at the bench. Her passion for painting developed in 2017 after experiencing a tremendous personal loss and continues in her studio in the woods in western NC today. Inspired by the surrounding mountains, nature, music and her emotions Libby paints in acrylic using papers and various mixed media preferring canvas as her substrate. Her process involves layering, risk taking and her intuition to choreograph the surface at hand without thought of where a painting will end and become complete. Libby has participated in workshops and has shown her paintings in various group exhibitions locally and nationally. Her paintings can be found in private collections throughout the US. As a new body of work emerges Libby discovers a deeper cultivation of her own spiritual nature.
