Turtel Onli

"I created "Rhythmism" as a future-primitif intelligent expansion of what is called the "Black Art Movement". I started this open ended and curious practice in 1970 at age 18 as I felt the term of "Black Art" needed refinement. It demanded to expand to be as rigorously manifested and ultimately established as Surrealism or Impressionism are both genres and parts of European of Western Art. That would be the role and place of "Rhythmism" in the art world, be it the :Black Art Movement' or the mainstream canons of visual art.

I wanted to explore, expand and establish "Rhythmism". This was the foundation of my rigorous education and prolific practice over five decades and the just recently completed a Flex Summer / Fall 2020 Residency in Chicago at the Hyde Park Art Center where I made the pivot from experimental to affirmed. "Rhythmism Lives!"

In 2021 I was featured in the landmark group exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, curated by Dan Nadel. "Chicago Comics: 1960 Until Now!" Plus I was given a solo exhibition at the stately Gordon Parks Hall of the University of Chicago', Corvus Gallery.

I am a two-time graduate of the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago. BFA 1978 in Art Education. M.A.A.T. 1989 in Art Therapy. Including a wide range of studio courses.

Please Wiki my full name, Turtel Onli, for more details about my Rhythmistic practice that covered fine, commercial, therapeutic, educational expressions, indie-publishing and outstanding documented accomplishments."
