Oghale Thomas Agboge

Artist Statement

"The forces of economic pressure was drowning me in the deep sea of life, I struggled to swim to shore with my brush still in hand. The struggle is real and the spirit is energized in my crafted Acrylic medium and my undulating oil sculpted forms on my canvas in clear, raw and diluted colors.

My works captures the beauty in mundane objects and nature, my subject matter cut across issues of life and traditions  of man.

I use lines and colors to define space and form; I create simple geometric systems and deliberate contrast and definition of objects in space. The thick deliberate dark lines and vibrant colors are trademark. My female figures depict vulnerability but shows courage, power and strength. My works have evolved over the years due to the dynamic nature of life. I have experimented with all kind of materials and still juggling in the world of experimentation; while I keep searching for a place of contentment I most times find clarity of vision.

I always find expression in Oil and Acrylic colors on canvas, panels and paper. I love the potency and darkness charcoal on paper.

I think Art can change the world but the reality is it's a path to enlightenment and education"
