A painter who was born and has lived in Tehran, Iran her entire life, Shida Azari explores the culture of her homeland, social contrasts of the region and femininity through her work.
Earning a BA in painting from the Tehran University of Art and a master’s in painting from Azad University in Tehran, Azari has had her work exhibited in group and individual shows in Iran, Italy, Kuwait, Melbourne, Taiwan, Tokyo, U.A.E and the USA. In addition to receiving numerous awards for her paintings, her pieces are in the permanent collections of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (Taiwan), the Tama Art University Museum (Tokyo) and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Tehran.
Through her painting, Azari seeks to reach a balance between the society she grew up in and the way she feels as a woman.
