Sharon Wolpoff

It can be said that Sharon Wolpoff, who began her art training at age five, has always been an artist. She completed her formal education at American University in Washington, DC (B.A., M.F.A. and J.D.), with additional coursework in Italy and Mexico, and has continued to expand her creative vocabulary with studies at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and Anderson Ranch in Colorado. An accomplished printmaker, her work is featured in Catherine Kernan’s recently published book “Singular & Serial: Contemporary Monotype and Monoprint”, in fact the Library of Congress just acquired one of her monoprints. Counted amongst her honors are three Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Awards, an Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County Fellowship and a Kreeger Purchase Prize. Throughout her career her paintings have been exhibited extensively, most recently at the Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, CA, Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore and the American University Museum in Washington, DC.

Her upcoming show, “Wherever I Turn I See Light” at the University of Maryland’s Global Campus Gallery, is is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2022. On a lighthearted note, one of Wolpoff’s paintings was in use on the set of the NBC hit series “Mad About You”. A Washington, DC native, her studio is located in Kensington, MD.
