Vivian Ronay

My current project concerns religious tolerance with a body of photographs that examines the interior spaces of places of worship of the three Abrahamic religions. I was a Senior Scholar Fulbright Fellow in Egypt in 2007-08 for this project. I photographed places of worship and people praying throughout Egypt, from a synagogue in Alexandria to an adobe mosque in Siwa and to Coptic monasteries along the Nile and in the Eastern desert.
However, the geographic span of my work goes from Central Europe to Central Asia. My wish for the viewers of my work is that they find the beauty and have reverance for all three religions thereby stimulating a healthy tolerance and respect and perhaps a curiosity to delve into the similarities of these faiths.
