My name is Aisha Jemila Daniels. I am a twenty-year-old award winning artist that was born and raised in Miami, Fl. The daughter of educators, I benefitted from arts education by attending arts magnet schools: Rainbow Park Elementary, Norland Middle School, and Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High STAR Magnet. Additionally, from the age of 13 to 17, I was a member of Voices United, a community service organization focused on visual and performing arts, and a participant in North Miami’s Museum of Contemporary Arts' workshops for photography and journalism. I am currently a fine arts major at Howard University and the American University of Sharjah with a focus on photography. Growing up in Miami and pursuing higher education in Washington, D.C. and the United Arab Emirates have enabled me to develop a global perspective. Miami has a rich international population, as it is considered the Latin American and Caribbean hub for commerce and arts. Famous for its ports and for its International Arts Festival, Art Basel, I attended elementary and secondary school with a diverse group of students from all over the globe. My natural inclination to love all people and all cultures was nurtured early in life as my educator parents have friendships with a vast array of people from other cultures and other nations.
Throughout my formative years, I was exposed to countless African cultures on the African continent and in her diaspora. These experiences fostered a love of all cultures and a desire to travel far and wide to capture them through my artistic and journalistic pursuits. My focus on the arts enables me to study art history within three distinct contexts: local, national and international. I am able to see how these distinct contexts overlap historically and contemporarily. My early connections with arts and attending Howard University and the American University of Sharjah have done much to expand my global perspective intellectually and artistically.
