Andy Dunaway

For over 23 years, I’ve made it my life’s work to bring to light the human condition people of the world face in the midst of war and natural disaster. During my time as a military combat photographer, I traveled straight to the heart of war torn countries to document and share the stories of those citizens caught in the crossfire in hopes I could make some difference through my abilities as a visual storyteller. I’ve found that some conflicts have come to a resolution and, however unlucky, some have not. Despite either outcome, my pictures have stood the test of time to bear witness and remain a constant reminder of what happened to those people in those places.

Though I’ve seen the worst of human conditions, I believe there is value and worth in every human being and they have a story worth sharing with the world. I’ve been fortunate to survive a 23-year career as a combat photographer. Even though luck may have a hand in my success, I believe it’s my ability to focus on the story and see the project through as safely and smartly as possible. I’ve also had the support of a loving wife, two clever children and a place to call home – many others do not have such luxury, which is why I continue my work as a photojournalist.
