Catherine SICA, born 1963 in Freiburg im Breisgau/Germany, lives and works in the idyllic town Rust in Burgenland, Austria. She showed a passion and skill for drawing and painting from an early age and demonstrated exceptional artistic talent painting in a naturalistic way throughout her childhood and adolescence. As a professional restorer, formally trained at the Goering Institute in Munich and the Goering Academy in Stuttgart with specialty in restauration of fine art, her personal artwork has been influenced by a rich variety of art forms she encountered throughout the years in her restoration commissions. She intensively researched the technique of the old masters and experimented herself with a vast variety of old and new techniques, textures and objects. In the process her style evolved through various stages from figurative painting more and more into soft abstract painting, while challenging ideas to the edge of possibilities to find fresh perspectives. Pulsed to share her emotions and perception of the world and the universe in an expressionistic form she developed her own interpretation of Expressionism and claims “Transformational Expressionism” as the signature style for her art. While seeking to find a visual equivalent to today ́s spirit of time she desires to arouse in the viewer deep inner emotions and transform him into the higher world of reality outside of his walls. Her objective is to capture a unique emotional and energetic moment in her art work which will transform someone forever while introducing different themes in her work.
SICA’s distinctive style, rooting in her deep connection with nature and the universal forces, encouraged her to experiment and develop a special technique for incorporating different kind of stones on canvas. In many of her paintings these unique star fragments from the universe and cosmic relics, holding the secrets of earth’s development, are intended to serve as a stimulating energy source while installing in the viewer a greater sense of harmony by strengthening the aura of body and mind. SICA Art invites the viewer to perceive that we are only guests on this planet, and that we need the planet for survival, not vice versa. Her work is intended to relate the message that all is synergy and coherence and that all live needs to be treated with equal respect.
TRANSFORMATIONAL EXPRESSIONISM BY SICA
Expressionism is a modernistic movement and artistic style in which the artist seeks to depict not objective reality but rather the subjective emotions and responses that objects and events seeking to arouse within a person to arouse extreme emotions in the viewer.
SICA challenges ideas and inspirations to the edge of possibilities to find fresh perspectives.
She envisions emotions as ever evolving and transforming into higher consciousness and in the process redefines and interprets the original expressionistic movement and identifies Transformational Expressionism as her personal style. Her view and artistic style are reflected in different themes, such as ‘Connected’ – ‘Meditation’ – ‘Trinity of Matter’, and the application of new techniques as well as incorporating different objects, such as stones, rare metals and art photography.
