A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, Bruce Barton is active in both Fine and Communication Arts. Among his past employers/clients are Northrop Grumman Corporation, for whom he served as Creative Director of the B-2 Stealth Bomber project, and he also managed the Design Graphics functions, directing the production of marketing and advertising materials for the flights of the NASA Space Shuttles for Rockwell International.

Barton also has extensive experience in publishing, having produced books and journals for The Green Tiger Press, whose Art and youth books are available through the Museum of Modern Art, LA County Museum, and Rizzoli bookstores. He also served as a designer and production manager for the books and journals of Scholars’ Press, creating publications for a dozen learned societies, including Harvard University, Society of Biblical Literature and the American Academy of Religion.

He has taught at The Ohio State University, University of Manitoba, University of Montana, Azusa Pacific, Cal State Fullerton, and University of California, Irvine.

An avid sailor, Barton also teaches blue water sailing.

Among his personal publications are The Tree at the Center of the World, a pictorial record on the traditions at work in the Franciscan Missions of California, and The Mission Event which, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, is a 90 minute PBS presentation of the roots of cultural pluralism among the Blackfeet, Crow, N. Cheyenne, Flathead, Sioux and the Jesuits who mission among them.

Barton’s primary research area is drawing, at which he is very active, and has exhibited throughout much of the U.S. and in some cities abroad.
