I am Ebenezer Christian, born in Cape Coast, but is currently a Bachelor of Fine Art degree holder at the Department of Painting and Sculpture, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
I bring my interests in modelling, casting, carving, welding, drawing, and painting together creating perplexing cold cast relief object assemblages. Actual objects like animal horns, bones and skeletal parts, scrap metal, defunct studio tools, discarded safety gear and different aggregates of gravel are strenuously constituted into unnerving masses held in place with greenware clay. A mould is then picked of these with gel-flex or silicon. A synthetic resin and iron filing mixture is then poured into the mould. This is then reinforced with fiberglass.
I further complicate the degree of mystery of the objects by randomly embedding pieces of magnets within them and also introducing loose masses of iron-filings onto the surfaces. The filings form furry clusters over the areas with the embedded magnets. The resulting sculptures simulate archeological material excavated from a certain future time. Even with their mechanical look, the sculptures still spot a certain eerie organic appeal as oxidization and rust continues the aging process.
