craig mooney

American Contemporary (b 1969)

Craig Mooney paints figures and landscapes with a heightened sense of emotionality. While he does not paint specific places his work has a sense of the familiar. Details are purposely left out and the viewer is invited to be drawn into the work's ambiguity.

Mooney was born and raised in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The cramped conditions growing up and the lack of suitable subject matter forced the artist to rely on his imagination. Mooney continues to this day to rely on his imagined world for inspiration.
