Cassandria Blackmore

Cassandria Blackmore is acclaimed for her unconventional approach to reverse painting. Blackmore was born in San Diego, California. She studied at Lewis & Clark College, completed independent studies in Yorkshire, England, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pacific Northwest College of Art. She was awarded the Hauberg Fellowship for painting on glass. Blackmore is on the Pilchuck Glass Panel discussion for 2009. This panel features  three artists  whose work is going outside the traditional boundaries of glass and into a contemporary realm.

Blackmore's recent commissions include a large scale permanent installation for the lobby of the new Waldorf Astoria. Her work is in the public collections of Neiman Marcus, Lexus Corp., Four Seasons, University of Washington, MGM Center, Floyd and Delores Jones Playhouse, Pacific Central Bank, The Peninsula Hotel, City of Seattle, Deloitte Consulting, The Bellevue Club, Ritz Carlton and more.

Cassandria Blackmore exhibits her work internationally.

STATEMENT: 
"The paintings are finished then shattered, allowing "chance" to take part in the image making. Each piece of glass fractures in its own way, segmenting the painted image. Images become puzzles. They are visual and tactile diaries written in a sort of Braille, telling the tale of how they were touched by human hands. They are created whole, broken apart and then put back together. It is the essence of breaking down the image and restoring it to another version of itself that intrigues me.
