In Mr. Celso Pepito’s works you don’t only see beauty, you feel their heart, you feel their Filipino sentimentality and values, and you know his pieces’ aim is not to impress but to express, inspire, and tell a story.
Paying tribute is a common theme of his paintings and exhibits and this gesture alone is proof of his humility, that he owes his talent to years of tedious experience, to many people in his past and present, and ultimately to Someone greater.
He studied Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines - Cebu. Celso Pepito’s most recent works contain bold strokes and bright colors. He considers cubism as his genre although he started with impressionism-realism when he was still a student of the Maestro himself Martino Abellana – dean of Cebuano painters.
To this day he considers Abellana as one of his greatest mentors. While he finds meaning in cubism, Mr. Pepito sees his art to be continually evolving.
Celso Pepito was born in Daanbantayan, Cebu. At age six, his family moved to Mindanao and he grew up in Bukidnon. Now, he is Cebu-based again but travels a lot even internationally for his art engagements.
