Chanel Compton was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Compton completed a Masters of Arts Management in 2010 at American University and a Bachelors of Fine Arts at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in 2006.
Since 2004, she has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions in New Jersey and Washington, DC. Compton works as an artist and arts educator and lives by a strong belief that the process of making art can transform lives and communities. In 2011, she was selected to represent the United States as a member of the U.S. Department of States Cultural Envoy to Brazil, where she created three murals with the local students and artists in Sao Paolo, Brasilia and Salvador. Locally, leads and participates in community arts projects with the arts non-profit Albus Cavus, Smithsonian Institution, Perry Center Inc, the Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center and her work was featured at the Extreme Home Makeover’s Home Edition. Chanel Compton is a member of the artist collective and non-profit Albus Cavus. She has a studio and creates artwork in the historic neighborhood of Anacostia in Washington DC.
