Cheryl Maeder

I was born in Elmwood Park, New Jersey and in my early 20s moved to Zurich, Switzerland, where I studied photography at the Zurich University of the Arts. After eight years in Switzerland, I returned to United States and opened my photography studio in San Francisco. I photographed for major advertising and fashion campaigns. I transitioned from photographing fashion models to photographing real women. I wanted to celebrate the beauty of women in all shapes and sizes. My photography work became the inspiration for the global Dove Campaign on Real Women, Real Beauty which helped to transform the way women are perceived in the media.

In 2005, I relocated my studio to the Miami area and immersed myself into the art of photography & filmmaking. Experimentation & explorations with my camera led me to the world of abstractionism in both my photographs and video installations.

My photography work is in the permanent collection of museums, such as the Frost Museum, Miami and exhibited at Louvre Museum, Paris, Boca Museum of Art and Norton Museum. I was selected for a solo exhibition at the Miami International Airport, September 2016 by The Fine Art & Cultural Affairs Board of MIA. The Public Art Installation, Submerge, was exhibited for the City of West Palm Beach, Canvas Outdoor Museum. Two of of my photographs were selected by Art Miami/Art Southampton to represent Art Southampton 2015 worldwide in their global print and online media. My photographs have been auctioned at Sotheby’s NY and are collected worldwide, including Shanghai, Paris, London, Istanbul, Miami and Toronto.
