Cheryl Agulnick Hochberg creates work that results from her travels. Either through artist residency fellowships or through personal travel, she works onsite, gathering images of a specific place. Hochberg believes landscape and animals have stories to tell, and through her process of first making photo composites, she creates works of art that allow the locations to speak, bringing each places specific strangeness to the forefront.

Hochberg’s work has been exhibited widely throughout the US. Recent solo exhibitions of her work have been hosted by VisArts Center in Rockville, MD, Five Points Gallery in Torrington, CT, the Allentown Art Museum in Allentown, PA (2014), Montgomery College in Takoma Park, MD (2014), the Banana Factory in Bethlehem, PA (2012), and Sweetbriar College in Amherst, VA (2011). Her work has been included in numerous group shows including “Victory for Tyler” at the Ice Box in Philadelphia (2013), “A Whole New Game” at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire (2014), and Womanmade Gallery in Chicago (2014). Her recent show at VisArts was reviewed favorably in the Washington Post.

Hochberg is regularly awarded fellowships at artist residency programs. In 2019, she spent a month at the Guanlan Printmaking Base in Shenzhen China. Before that, she has also worked at the UCross Foundation (2017), the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Amherst, VA (2014, 2017, 2019), Playa Summerlake in Summerlake, OR (2018), and Jentel (2015).

Hochberg served as Chairperson of the Fine Arts Department at Kutztown University in Kutztown, PA, from 2017-2018. She held the rank of Full Professor before taking early retirement in 2018. She currently works full time as an artist and maintains a studio in East Orange, NJ. She holds an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.
