With thread in the needle and tongue in the cheek, I create artworks at the sewing machine. Finding inspiration from everyday current events, museum visits, and social events, I stir in a bit of subtle humor and stitch with abandon to build works that go beyond the boundaries of most art pieces. My art is freely stitched using rayon threads, and I mix colors by placing one color next to another, allowing the eye to interpret the color.

Having worked in this medium for thirty-five years, I've enjoyed the experience of seeing my work in museum exhibitions, juried or invitational, solo or group, throughout the world. It is in the permanent collections of the NYC Metropolitan Museum, the Denver Art Museum, the Racine Art Museum, Arkansas Arts Center, Temple TX Arts Center, a school-affiliated museum in Houston, as well as in the Contemporary Textile Museum in Angers, France, and the Szombathely Keptar in Hungary. I'm also represented in numerous private collections throughout the United States and Europe, in part due to my twelve-years association with the Jane Sauer Gallery in Santa Fe NM, before the owner's retirement. I am now associated with Snydermann-Works in Philadelphia.

Special recognition of my art has been the designation of "Cindy Hickok, Texas Master" by the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, resulting in a solo exhibition at that museum; a bronze medal awarded for "Cafe de Musee" at the 14th International Triennial of Tapestry in Lodz, Poland; and the mayor's selection of "See The USA" for posters, banners, and other publicity in the city of Paris, France, coinciding with an international embroidery exhibition in that city.

I continue to enjoy creating new works as I experiment with techniques, which generate new ideas.
