Columbia, SC artist doni jordan creates mixed media assemblages, collages, art installations and fiber art. She received a BFA in studio art from the University of South Carolina (USC) and was recently inducted into the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) in New York City.
Trained as a graphic designer, her love of design and typography is reflected in the art she creates. Inspired by an art exhibition of concrete poetry by Italian artist Mirella Bentivoglio at The National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, she expanded her view of type beyond communication and symbol. Her current body of work, tomes, is a collection of heavy books using metal and wooden vintage printer’s type, type trays and found objects.
As a twin, she values the feedback and creative synergy that results in collaborative efforts. In 2011, she teamed up with Charlotte artist, Janette Grassi, to create reserve your seat, an art installation of 50 chairs at Saluda Shoals Park, Columbia, SC to promote Nature's Theater, an upcoming performing arts venue that celebrates art and nature. A commemorative book was published of the project and a collection of the chairs will be featured on the plaza of the Columbia Museum of Art during the 2012 Annual Gala that coincides with the exhibition opening of The Art of Seating: 200 Years of American Design.
