I am a New Englander born in 1958 in Pelham, New Hampshire, USA. I have traveled extensively, living in a teepee in the Pacific Northwest, in the rugged mountains of New England and in the snowy villages of France. I now make my home on the coast of Rhode Island. My art is borne from color and emotion. Some ask me how long I have been a painter. The question seems odd, for I have never known a time when color was not my constant companion. Since childhood I have used my painting to express and release my dreams – my self. When I am painting, I am connected to a place within me. Everything around me is reduced to color, texture, form, and feeling. I have no need for words or any other trappings of reality. I am connected to a place within me where the world both begins and ends. When I am in that space, I can feel free to release my joys, fears, sorrows, anger and passion.
I use oils and acrylics to create contemporary figurative art rooted in Expressionism. I also create abstracts that are studies in color. Palette knives, brushes, fingers, rags, and anything else within reach become the tools with which I try to bend reality to stir the emotions. When I paint, I close my eyes and let my inner self emerge on the canvas.
I have shown in group and solo shows throughout Rhode Island, as well as in shows in New York City, California, and Wyoming. I have also exhibited at the Danforth and Attleboro Museums in Massachusetts.
