Emily Ginsburg is a multidisciplinary and conceptually driven artist. Her work maps the psycho social impact of communication and facets of everyday life through diverse media. The complexity of embodied experience drives her research into how state of body and state of mind are perpetually entangled with media systems. Works range from digital print media, sculpture, installation, and painting, to animation and sound.
Over her 30 plus year career, works have been exhibited nationally and internationally and commissioned for public art projects by the state of Washington for Foothills Elementary School, the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs for Seattle City Light Seattle, as well as Portland State University, CYAN/PDX, and Modera Buckman in Portland. She has also been awarded various project grants through the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and residencies in Vermont, Florence, London, Brazil, and Finland. Projects have been featured in publications such as the Map as Art by Kitty Harman, DATAFLOW by Gestalten, and reviewed in Art Papers, Art US, and The 22 Magazine amongst others. She exhibits nationally and internationally. Upcoming projects include a solo exhibition, “A Soft Landing”, at SE Cooper Contemporary, and group exhibitions at Well Well Projects and Playground Gallery respectively.
Emily Ginsburg was born in New York, New York. She received her BA in Art History from Trinity College and an MFA in Printmaking from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Ginsburg is Professor, and Chair of BFA Programs, at the Pacific Northwest College of Art at Willamette University in Portland Oregon.
